pi-thought-bubbles
Agent thoughts materialise randomly around the screen and then fade away.
While the agent is thinking, fragments of its reasoning (the first few words of each sentence) fade in at random screen positions, hover for a moment, and fade back out — like fireflies of cognition.
Install
pi install npm:pi-thought-bubbles
Or try it without installing:
pi -e npm:pi-thought-bubbles
Usage
The extension is active by default in TUI mode whenever the model produces thinking tokens.

How it works
message_updateexposesassistantMessageEvent, including token-levelthinking_deltaevents. These are accumulated and split into sentences.- Each "thought" is a small, single-line overlay exactly the size of the text.
- "Fading" is simulated by stepping theme colors: dim → muted → tint → muted → dim. Terminals have no alpha channel.
- Overlays are driven via the public
tui.showOverlay()API (captured once per session with a one-time invisible probe), with a legacy fallback for older pi versions.
